Nick Barber has been Professor of Constitutional Law and Theory at the Oxford Law Faculty since 2017. Backed by a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship (2026–2029), his current project explores "Reason and Emotion in the Formation of Constitutional Identity". Professor Barber has lectured and published extensively worldwide on constitutional law and theory. He is the author of The Constitutional State (2011), The Principles of Constitutionalism (2018), and The United Kingdom Constitution: An Introduction (2021). His scholarship has been the subject of dedicated essay collections in The American Journal of Jurisprudence and The Jerusalem Review of Legal Studies. Beyond academia, he was the founding editor of the UK Constitutional Law Blog. His co-authored blog post famously initiated the landmark Miller litigation, providing the core legal arguments ultimately adopted by both the High Court and the Supreme Court. He also co-directs The Programme for the Foundations of Law and Constitutional Government.
